“To build community, a dialogue must begin between design professionals and people who appreciate their built environment, and wonder may be the ideal departure point” Alexander Tzonis, in Santiago Calatrava – The Poetics of Movement
City Planning - Specialist Service
City
Planning is a complex affair, involving many professionals; planners,
architects, civil engineers, council authorities etc. Feng Shui Agency is
experienced with large scale planning – from leisure resorts and football
stadiums to the analysis of towns and cities.
Yin Feng Shui
Our Yin
feng shui training allows us to assess natural energies, much the same way as a
civil engineer is trained to assess water, but the difference is that we
perhaps take a more holistic viewpoint based on subtle energy systems rather
than just physical systems. We look at the shape of the site, because shapes
have powerful subliminal meanings. We help you find the Vitality position, and
recommend an entrance or roundabout at this point. For the Tomb position we’ll
recommend exits that take the less auspicious energy away from the site.
Form School in an urban context
We apply
ancient Chinese principles to modern environments. Today’s rivers are
motorways, streets and railways. Today’s mountains can be found in the shape of
railway embankments, large buildings and neighbouring houses. Where you are
lucky enough to be planning a scheme within a site with good old fashioned
rivers and mountains, then even better!
One way systems & bypasses
While
one-way systems undoubtedly have benefits to help keep city traffic moving or
to bypass small villages, they can sometimes reverse the chi and bring in
forces from negative directions instead of auspicious directions. Best to check
with a feng shui consultant before you plan to disrupt the heart of a town’s
infrastructure by creating different traffic flows.
Grand
Master Chan Kun Wah works with Feng Shui Agency on the occasion where his
guidance is required to further inform our work. To enhance our understanding
of large scale developments and city planning we have travelled to towns in
Germany, Scotland, Caribbean, Hong Kong, Lanzarote and Switzerland to apply
feng shui principles.

Finding the 'Pulse of Chi'
We will find the 'pulse of chi' in the landscape and suggest the best places for major and minor roads and railway lines to nourish the heart of the centre or the heart of the suburb. We will also assist you in creating a unifying scheme where the spaces between buildings are as important as the buildings themselves.
Co-operating with planners we will show how buildings create dialogue,
relationship, functionality and harmony. Seeing the world through Feng Shui
eyes provides another layer of understanding of human activity within
certain configurations of space. In fact, our feng shui guidelines can actually help to simplify design decisions.

Feng Shui you will have understood by now is not just about pot plants and soft furnishings! For centuries man has relied upon his intelligent relationship with nature to ensure his protection and survival. The rural farmers in China were aware of the patterns of the universe and were adept at using form and placement to ensure the best harvest of their crops and the safest and most imposing orientation of their home. They liked to have a mountain (whether virtual or actual) at the back of their house and a river (or virtual river such as a road) at the front, on which they could make their way to the local market and conduct commerce. They preferred to have a high protective hill or building in the Northeast to protect from northerly winds and a lower hill in the west so that the crops could catch the last rays of the evening sun.
These rudimentary feng shui techniques came to the attention of wandering scholars, whose privileged position in society meant they did not have to toil in the fields all day, but could devote time to refining the principles originated by the country people. These scholars and monks developed a system of understanding planetary alignments and their effects on the earth's magnetic field, long before our modern satellites ever confirmed the existence of solar winds.
Feng Shui belongs to The Eight Branches of Tao along with I Ching, acupuncture, herbal medicine, qigong (chi kung), nei dan, astrology, and Taoist yoga. This system reveals a beautiful and elegant understanding of life because it originates in a deep, integrated and cosmological understanding of the three treasures:- heaven, humanity and earth.
Developments in quantum physics and biochemistry confirm what ancient traditions have long been aware of - an exuberant energetic connection exists between all living things and that what affects one will affect the other. Call it what you will - chi, energy, lifeforce, prana, orgone, vitality - it is the "spirit that moves through all things."
